what sad people.
what sad people.
Im not usually one to go into personal stuff via social networking but I think I owe it to myself and to my peers to talk about this. A little over 2 years ago I was diagnosed with urticarial vasculitis, a rare autoimmune disease characterised by reoccurring urticaria (nettle rash). Basically, this means my immune system cannot defend against certain pathogens making me more prone to infections and also causing my body to break out in severe hives. Luckily, after seeing over 10 “conventional, insurance approve” doctors who only wanted to feed me steroids, I was introduced to a naturopath who was able to help me. By making a drastic change in my diet and introducing a natural supplement routine, my hives have been almost completely gone for over a year and a half. I still get mild breakouts and I get sick more than I would like, but this only happens when I get away from eating right and not sleeping/partying too much.
However, its not an easy lifestyle to keep, especially in our culture of convenient food and pharmaceutical coverups. Really, until watching this documentary, Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, I realized I have been forgetting to put my health first and I notice a difference. The happiest and healthiest I have ever been was when I was farming up north in California. I was eating fresh food everyday, exercising all the time and living with purpose and clarity. I know I have gotten away from that as it is easy to do. However, I want to make a valiant effort to reconnect with what my body needs.
I don’t want to sound preachy. Every persons body needs and can tolerate different things but I do think it is important to listen to your body and educate yourself with what you are putting in it whether that be food or medicine.
Also, if you have the time, this movie is definitely worth checking out, not because its masterfully cinematic but it is a great and inspiring story. I feel especially connected to it since both the men whose stories are told also have urticaria.
Its a new year, be good to yourself.
Henry Miller talks death and dreams with Anais Nin.
H: “That’s the real death… Being dead while you’re alive, that’s the real death.”
Couldn’t agree with you more, Mr. Miller. Couldn’t agree with you more.
“the only difference in lives is your point of view. the world does not change, you change.”
in all seriousness though, do what you can to fight SOPA and write Congress here.
